Frostbite Local Race 3 – Saturday February 25th

So then folks race 3  – the final race – is next Saturday at Hengistbury Head. The format and distance will be the same but we may change the route a little to mix it up a bit, not sure yet but it will defo be 5 miles again. Frostbite Local Race 2 – Sat 11th February

After a successful format last week with a 1 mile and 5 mile race, we are going to repeat this format at race 2 on Saturday 11th February. However, the 1 miler we think was a little easy so although it was a nice taster, this is going to increase to 2 miles. Watching the short race last week, there are definitely a few people (if not all) who can move up to the 5 miler! We had feedback requesting to do the long race again so people can try and beat their time and this is great to hear as it shows people are enjoying the challenge and the spirit of racing.

Evening club paddles…

We’ll be having club paddles in the evenings now that the warmer weather is upon us. More than likely will be twice a month but details will be out soon. These will start in May and run through to September.

Baysup domination at The Head of the Dart

Great results for club members Ryan James, Pete Holiday, Nick Watt and Shaun Taylor at the Head of the Dart race in Devon last weekend.  Ryan stormed his way to winning the Open class on his K15, with Nick Watt coming in 3rd. Pete Holiday won the 12’6 with Shaun 2nd in an incredible effort, these guys were up with or beating the Open class paddlers! Was great to see some new racers at this years event and also that the standard of racing is being pushed all the time. The wind this year was horrid but everyone got their ‘race faces’ on and stormed it.

This was once again an awesome race and thank you to the rowing club and John Hibbard for making it happen.

Sorted Festival, Frostbite 3, HOTD and Frostbite 4!

Well it’s all been happening lately on the event scene and quite alot of that is due to BaySUP!! Sorted Surf festival was packed with 2 days of sunshine, a small wave and plenty of SUP racing. Another grand success for the club, a big thanks to Shaun and the guys at Sorted for letting us run the SUP. Then last Sunday saw Frostbite Stage 3 at Merstham Surrey and again we were blessed with glorious sunshine, a stunning paddling location and plenty of racers. A high percenatage of racers were from the Bournemouth area, shame more people from the East and London areas couldn’t make it,  but hey that’s life. It just goes to show that Bournemouth area is driving the sport forward. The guys at Aquasports and Colin Elston did an awesome job on holding stage 3 and we are looking forward to next year.

Jon Parker was busy taking some awesome snaps of these events and they can be found on his website, check them out; Frostbite 3 http://www.jonparkerphotography.com/?Action=_VC&id=73043002&ppwd=pp6479gv and Sorted Festival http://www.jonparkerphotography.com/?Action=_VC&id=73043002&ppwd=pp6479gv. There are some video clips on the home page of SUP UK taken by John Hibbard and The SUP Store http://standuppaddlesurf.co.uk/. These clips give a great view of the race and your can see how the action unfolds.

So, straight into the next event which is Head of the Dart in south Devon. This race is a cracker which goes doen the river Dart this year from Totnes to Dartmouth. If you don’t fancy racing it you can enter the cruising section and take in the stunning scenary. There will be a plethora of club members heading down for this one as we had such a great time last year. All details and entry can be found at http://standuppaddlesurf.co.uk/sup-events/view/58/5. Due to the scale of the event from the rowing club perspective, then entry closes on Sat 2nd April so get in there quickly.

Then on 22nd April (Good Friday) we’ll see the Frostbite finale at Hayling Island run by Steve West from Islander Paddler. Steve sure knows how to hold a SUP event and there will be plenty going on with racing, cruising, coachin, bbq, band and probably a few beers! Check out all the details on www.islanderpaddler.com

News just in too that we may be doing a ‘Taster day’ at Boscombe Beach on 1st May as party of ther Boscombe Tea Party but we’ll kep you posted.

So there you go folks, have fun out there, stay safe and we’ll see you on the water very soon.

Cheers

(PS, club night details coming soon)
